On 30 October-3 November, 2018 Tbilisi State Conservatoire hosted the 9th International Symposium on Traditional Polyphony held by the Conservatoire, The International Centre for Georgian Folk Song, and Folklore State Centre of Georgia with the financial support of Georgia Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, under the patronage of President of Georgia.
In 2018 with the financial support of the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, and “Georgian Chanting Foundation” International Research Centre for Traditional Polyphony of Tbilisi State Conservatoire published the book “Georgian Polyphony in Western Turkey: In the footsteps of Peter Gold” (in Georgia, Turkish, English and German); the book was published by WPN Polish Publishers specially for Frankfurt Book Fair.
During the 9th International Symposium on Traditional Polyphony Frank Scherbaum (University of Potsdam/Germany), Nana Mzhavanadze (Ilia State University/Georgia) and Elguja Dadunashvili (University of Jena/Germany) presented a new web-based, long-term archive of audio, video, and larynx-microphone field recordings of traditional Georgian singing, praying and lamenting with special emphasis on Svaneti.

As it has been announced, the 9th International Symposium on Traditional Polyphony will be held on 30 October-3 November, 2018, in Tbilisi State Conservatoire, Georgia. This year symposium is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first republic of Georgia and it will host scholars and musicians from Georgia and 16 foreign countries.

Tbilisi State Conservatoire (TSC), which is a centre for researching traditional polyphony in Georgia, has been studying for several years already musical culture of the Georgians living in Turkey, particularly musical traditions of the village Hayriye, Inegol district.
In 2018 with the financial support of the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, and “Georgian Chanting Foundation” International Research Centre for Traditional Polyphony of Tbilisi State Conservatoire published the book “Grimaud and Georgian Song” (in Georgia and English); the book was published by WPN Polish Publishers specially for Frankfurt Book Fair.
On 23-30 August a team of the IRCTP (Baia Zhuzhunadze, Giorgi Khukhunaishvili and Giorgi Gogitadze) with support of “Georgian Chanting Foundation” visited the city of Inegol, Turkey aiming to help local Georgians reviving their singing tradition. A number of songs were restored during their stay. In addition to the songs valunteers were also taught instrumental pieces for chiboni, restored from Ahmed Ozkan Melashvili’s recordings. With the purpose to revive tradition, the performers were given a few instruments as gifts.
At the same time working in a four-language book “Georgian Polyphony in Western Turkey: in the Footsteps of Peter Gold” was completed. Publication presents the musical traditions of village Hairiye, audio and notated examples of songs and instrumental pieces recorded by Ahmet Ozkan Melashvili (1965-1966), Peter Gold (1968) and IRCTP (2015). The collection will be exhibited at Frankfurt Book Fair in October together with the Centre’s another recent publication “Grimaud and Georgian Song”.
IRCTP published #24 Bulletin (June, 2018) which is available at the website and Facebook page of the center.
The bilingual bulletin of the IRCTP provides the information on the performance and study of traditional music, as well as presents novelties from Georgia’s ethnomusicological life.
