NinO Shvelidze

Ethnomusicologist, a coordinator of the Folklore State Center. She leads a course of theory and practice in Georgian musical folklore at the Tbilisi 4th musical school. In 1983 she graduated from the faculty of Musicology (Folklore specialty) at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire. Over years she worked in the Musical Department of Georgian Radio. The main sphere of her scientific interest is the issue of Organology. She is a member of the women’s folk ensemble “Mzetamze”.

Shvelidze’s main works:

Kartuli mravalgheriani salamuri – larchem-soinari (Georgian multistam pipe – larchem-soinari) (2003). Tsurtsumia, Rusudan and Jordania, Joseph (editor). The First International Symposium on Traditional Polyphony: 402-412. Tbilisi: International Research Center form Traditional Polyphony (in Georgian and English languages).
