In 2018 with the financial support of the Georgian Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, and “Georgian Chanting Foundation” International Research Centre for Traditional Polyphony of Tbilisi State Conservatoire published the book “Grimaud and Georgian Song” (in Georgia and English); the book was published by WPN Polish Publishers specially for Frankfurt Book Fair.
IRCTP team visiting Georgian population in Turkey
On 23-30 August a team of the IRCTP (Baia Zhuzhunadze, Giorgi Khukhunaishvili and Giorgi Gogitadze) with support of “Georgian Chanting Foundation” visited the city of Inegol, Turkey aiming to help local Georgians reviving their singing tradition. A number of songs were restored during their stay. In addition to the songs valunteers were also taught instrumental pieces for chiboni, restored from Ahmed Ozkan Melashvili’s recordings. With the purpose to revive tradition, the performers were given a few instruments as gifts.
At the same time working in a four-language book “Georgian Polyphony in Western Turkey: in the Footsteps of Peter Gold” was completed. Publication presents the musical traditions of village Hairiye, audio and notated examples of songs and instrumental pieces recorded by Ahmet Ozkan Melashvili (1965-1966), Peter Gold (1968) and IRCTP (2015). The collection will be exhibited at Frankfurt Book Fair in October together with the Centre’s another recent publication “Grimaud and Georgian Song”.

Results of the 9th symposium participants’ selection
The process of registration and selection of the scientists and ensembles participating in the 9th International Symposium on Traditional Polyphony (October 30-3 November) has ended!
By the decision of the Symposium Program Committee 45 scientists (30 scholars from 15 countries of the world and 15 from Georgia, as well as British producer Dan Shutt with his documentary about Albanian Iso-Polyphony) have been accepted to participate in the symposium in various formats.
The Symposium offers particularly diverse concert program including concerts of urban music, Georgian fusion and traditional music, with the participation of traditional music ensembles from 7 countries of the world.

Specialist of IRCTP Teona Lomsadze won PhD grant of Rustaveli National Foundation
Specialist of IRCTP and doctoral student of ethnomusicology at the Tbilisi State Conservatoire, Teona Lomsadze won PhD grant of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation. According to the grant, she will realize several scientific activities, including research visits to the world’s famous ethnomusicologists (Bruno Nettl, Jane Sugarman, Caroline Bithell, Martin Stokes) and presenting individual paper at the musicological conference City University of New York (CUNY).
